Divisions
Having studied Kenmare Needle Lace under the tutelage of lacemaker Nóra Finnegan, Harrington specialised in lacemaking in her final year of study in NCAD- both in studio practice and academically. Divisions is an examination of the farmland owned by the artist’s father, on the remote Beara Peninsula in west Cork. Harrington’s uncle affectionately referred to the farmland using a vernacular particular to their family and the region- phrases such as ‘the east crundy’ and ‘the muing’.
Divisions is a celebration of heritage, an attempt to preserve language, craft, culture and history simultaneously, through lace making and geographical vernacular.
