Description
The Beara Peninsula spans both the Cork and Kerry border. My childhood summers were always spent at my Grandmother’s House in Beara overlooking the Kerry mountains. This is a place of real natural beauty which is so unique to Ireland, even the little donkey enjoys the view. This piece took approximately 60 hours of intricate hand stitching to complete.
This piece measures 33x38cms. It’s made by hand using traditional Kenmare and Carrickmacross Lace. The little donkey is constructed in Kenmare Lace while the landscape and background is Carrickmacross. Both techniques are indigenous to Ireland. Each style is highly technical and require hours of focussed concentration. Lacemaking in Ireland today is a very rare practice. The design is original and a result of my own artwork and drawings. This is truly a one of a kind piece!
