The most exciting time of day as a child was always ‘High Tide- this meant the water was high enough to jump off the pier at my grandmother’s strand. It was always so much fun. Even though this little swimming spot was not marked on any map and was so isolated and remote, I always remember crowds of children diving, jumping and generally having a great time. The sun was always shining too!!
This piece measures 33x38cms. It is made using a combination of Carrickmacross and Kenmare Lace techniques. It was worked from a series of drawings and original artwork and took approximately 80 hours of hand-stitching to complete. The thread is delicately intertwined creating a variety of delicate and intricate patterns. This piece is part of a larger collection called My Grandmother’s House, which evokes memories of childhood experiences in rural Ireland.
